Moyes' Everton say: So much for green eyed envy and the Manchester Evening News

By Mark Reid on Jan 17, 10 05:00 PM in Fans

On January 15th, the local Manc rag (Manchester Evening News) published an article accusing David Moyes of making pot shots at Manchester City.

Throughout the article. It appeared as the writer were desperate to make a point of anything and anything. For instance David Moyes, as a Scotsman isn't in his rights taking about Viera's move stiffling English (domestic) players? Last time I checked, Scotsmen have had a huge impact in the English game particuarly in management and developing players. Theres nothing to be concerned about when a Scot talks about young talent, particuarly one with a track record like Moyes has.

Then the conspiracy theorists move by implication to the Lescott-saga. The clueless journo then decides to say that this was a "clumsy attempt at mind games" ,as well as implying that Manchester City acted properly and that Everton haven't in the past. This is done without any illustrations, just the implication.

The Manc rag continues:

"Perhaps a lot of people would also like to see youngsters given a chance rather than Everton spending £5.3m on 32-year-old Frenchman Sylvain Distin, or bringing in American Landon Donovan who, if he scores a goal or two in the World Cup in June, won't be doing much good for English football".

So what? In the absence of Lescott and where Moyes has detailed their illegal transfer behaviour: Everton were stuck without our key ENGLISH cente back who's been out for 8 months: Phil Jagielka. Plus the best young central defender at the club Duffy (who is a full northern Ireland international) isn't yet ready as he's barely 18. But he's still made two appearances for the first team this season. So the rag believes Moyes doesn't know how to develop youth? Clueless.

What becomes even more laughable is the list of young players City are apparently bringing through. Dedryck Boyata, Vlad Weiss, Andrew Tutte and Kieran Trippier. Thats two ENGLISH young players out of four. So where's the writers moral authority on English talent then? He's got none. Its just a load of foundationless bitter waffle.

What is even more laughable the well deserved 2-0 Everton victory, Everton played three current or former U21 internationals against Man City, all domestic youth players - James Vaughn (Everton youth), Seamus Coleman (Sligo Rovers: £150k) and Jose Baxter (Everton youth).

Who did City bring on? Robinho, Shaun Wright Phillips combined fees: £60million plus. Where were the youth then the Manchester Evening News were bragging about? At home?

Reading the comments on the page from so called City supporters is even more hilarious. Sour grapes? Bitterness? Have they looked in the mirror recently? Then we have how Mark Hughes was sacked. Cringeworthy behaviour from the club.
One comment from the City fans:
"I'll be laughing at Moyes and his joke of a club at the end of season when they hopefully get relegated. The man is a first class idiot"

Unfortunately, it seems these people don't know who the idiots actually are. Everton without their two best players: Phil Jagielka and Mikel Arteta (who both watched in a hospitality box) - bossed the game. It could easily have been 4-0 Everton.

And in answer to the comment of one Manc:
"we should sign up Rodwell, oh and by-pass Moyes in the bidding process, that should cheer this little wannabe up no end!"

One thing the truely bitter and sour Manc friends have yet to learn is Everton are not wannabes. We are a huge club. They or anyone else could try for Rodwell but they forget that Moyes with his team have established a production line of talent.

They'd be wise to learn football is not all about the money. Money just helps. Everton are a well run club, who one day in the not too distant future (next few years) will have a renovated stadia with a much larger capacity to go with our outstanding infrastructure like Finch Farm and the acadmey. Scoff all they want. What will they do when they're playing in front of 60000 Evertonians, if they can't even manage 40000?

They treated Everton with contempt in the summer, and last week. Lets hope Lescott enjoy's his stay in Manchester however brief that may be.

David Moyes and Everton gave City a master class on commitment and dignity. Fellaini gave them a taste of class. We haven't won 9 league titles and 5 FA Cups in our history for nothing.

Manchester City and the Manchester Evening News would be well advised to learn the lesson from David Moyes' Everton, the school of science. Classlessness will always be answered with class from Everton. Just as they were yesterday.

Very good post. I agree with all your main points.

My only quibble is the use of the latin plural 'stadia'. We are one club with one ground. Stadium is sufficient.

Very good article, spot on. The saddest thing is that Everton are never acknowledged on the BBC, or Irish TV for that matter. These stations are full of red loving odiot's.

Irish TV never highlighted the Fellaini jig with Bellamy, they simply dont want to know about EFC. Every week we are over fed with long highlights of all things red, and to add insult to injury we must listen to drivel from Mr Ronnie Whelan about all things Liverpool and he is never asked to contribute to anything to do with EFC. The tide will change very soon, we are coming into the last furlong and the finish line is in sight, we will be in the reckoning come May.

I used to think Man City fans were just about ok to get along with but since they have new leadership as in the shape of the arabs, they have gone ultra cocky and it so sad to see! I do believe if Everton got great investors on board we would not act like this. A lot of Everton fans are very wise when it comes to not only their club but football as a whole! History does this and the people who sit in the stands have seen Everton winning things unlike Man City fans you have been waiting over 30 years. So most of they fans have to be in their 30's or older to have seen a time when Man City were good! I bet their not the ones shout they mouths off! So take advice of the dads and grandads and show your class!. People might not hate you as much!
