Howard Kendall: Everton FC deserved Manchester City victory
WHAT a fantastic win over Man City.
I haven't seen an Everton crowd as bouyant as that after a game for a long, long time.
The result was fully deserved and all the better that it came against a club that has spent fortunes on supposed quality players.
Everton dominated City from start to finish, with everyone working hard for each other. The players knew exactly what their individual jobs were and it was good to see them playing with a smile on their faces again.
The upturn in form has coincided with the shape of the team getting closer to what David Moyes would like it to be. With the return of players like Steven Pienaar, and Marouane Fellaini dropping back into a holding midfield role, the team now has a better cohesion.
I've noticed something recently that has reminded me of my time managing the club.
Sometimes Kevin Ratcliffe would have his sortees out from the back, bringing the ball forward to start an attack.
As he pushed up, Paul Bracewell would instantly drop back in, covering Ratcliffe.
The same has been happening between Fellaini and Pienaar recently, with the South African tucking in whenever Fellaini breaks forward.
It's good to see this understanding between the players.
Fellaini has been among the headlines lately, earning well deserved praise but also being linked with one or two other clubs.
