EVERTON have agreed a deal to take Arsenal centre back Phillipe Senderos on loan until the end of the season.

Goodison manager David Moyes had been tracking the Swiss international as he sought defensive reinforcements in this month's transfer window.

Senderos this week made public his desire to leave the Emirates in search of the first football he believes will safeguard his hopes of playing in this year's World Cup.

Glasgow side Celtic were also tracking the defender, who spent last season on loan at AC Milan.

But Moyes has finally got his man after a permanent deal for Senderos fell through last summer when Everton could not agree a fee with Arsenal.

With Phil Jagielka still sidelined, Senderos will provide competition for places with Silvain Distin and John Heitinga until Joseph Yobo recovers from a hamstring injury that is likely to have ended his African Cup of Nations tournament with Nigeria.

Having already taken Landon Donovan on a short-term deal from MLS side LA Galaxy, Moyes is still seeking further loan arrivals before the end of the month.

Senderos played no part in Arsenal's FA Cup third round win at West Ham so will be eligible for the Blues' bid to reach Wembley again should they get past Birmingham but will not figure against Alex McLeish's side, having not been registered in time.

sad to see him go said:

If this is true, you might just have got yourself a bargain there. I think he is on a free in the Summer too so this could save you millions

Always rated Phil and wished he got more opportunities at Arsenal. He was wrongly dropped when Toure came back from the ANC at a time when he and Gallas formed a solid pairing.

He is a confidence player, but if he gets a run in the Everton 1st team then he will be a great player for you and a fans favorite.

I for one wish him luck....apart from against us.

Oh and if you have to play Chavski again this season. Dont start him if Drogba plays, he is a bogey player for him.
