Nils Satis Nisi Optimum? It should be "Wil Nunquam Iterum Exsisto Nils Satis Nisi Optimum" or may be "Lascivio Vestri Optimus Ludio Ludius" is most appropriate? *
* Go on, use Latin Translator on Google. It's dead easy!
One thing our latest predicament suggests is the bleedin' obvious: play your best players in your best formation and do it consistently. So, if we had all our squad available, and YOU had to pick a team for the Europa Cup Final and work backwards to, say, Sunday 29th November, who would you leave out of the starting line up?
⢠Does Cahill represent a great midfield play maker or the best header of a ball on the odd occasion with a tendency to collide with opponents for no obvious advantage to the team?
⢠Would you admit that Felliani was a last gasp, face-saving panic buy fast becoming the new Mickey Walsh? He looked great on TV but was a complete waste of money for Everton (mind you, he went on to score 42 in 75 for Porto!).
⢠Is Jo ever going to be prolific or just a really likeable headless chicken?
⢠Would you really say Phil Neville is as vital as the good Sir Phil makes out? He's a great example of professionalism but would he get into your first 11?
⢠And poor old Tony Hibbert. We love him but .......
As for the 'best' starting line up?
⢠Howard, Baines, Arteta, Piennar, Rodwell, Yakubu, Saha, Distin, Jagielka and hopefully little Bily on the wing are obvious certs. That's TEN.
⢠I am hoping Johnny Heitinga finds his You Tube shooting boots and becomes a regular right back with Neil providing cover and pressure.
Weaknesses?
⢠Formation. It should be 4-4-2 at home with Rodwell groomed for the back four in front of Distin and Jagielka and Arteta directing things between Bily and Piennar to his left and right. Putting Osman, Neil, or Neville in a midfield 5 away to the big boys with the use of Cahill in the last quarter is my favourite.
⢠Goals from other areas? The only advantage Lescott would have offered to the defence is goals. How good will Jagielka be with Mr. Cool alongside him? Maybe Young Jack will have more opportunities if given a Cultured Carsley role?
⢠Leaky defence? Playing regularly will sort that as per last year.
⢠Further reinforcements? A top class aggressive, goal-scoring midfield player and a forward with the guile of Yakubu and control (and near-genius) of Saha but with a few more years on the clock. Yes, I am dreaming!
Anyway, when the doom mongers begin to worry and wail, it may be "Wil Nunquam Iterum Exsisto Nils Satis Nisi Optimum", but Illegitimi Non Carborundum.
