Moyes-Doctrine: Vindication From Long-Term Work

By Mark Reid on Sep 21, 09 08:15 PM in Fans

One week. Two wins. Five of our major first teamers injured or returning. Seven goals.

Even missing Arteta and Jags, with Yak still in rehabilitation and Neville - wounded in action, yet again the foundations Moyes built show the quality and transformation made in the seven years in charge.

Forget the "clueless" fickle moaners - who know nothing about football complaining about Moyes or his team - our team. Patience and a big picture view are what is needed, and Moyes being allowed to go out and bring in re-enforcements, played to Moyes biggest strengths. Player spotting and player development.

Defeats to Arsenal, Burnley and Fulham didn't tell the whole story. Instability. Lack of form. Kicked and out muscled, key players missing and new players having only one training session, could not be expected to play - except in computer games like Football Manager. In the real world you can't do that - and if he did certain sections would criticise.

However, with 102 points still remaining to be won in the league - the moaners and clueless forget Premier League football is a marathon not a sprint. Everton would settle down and begin to play. Mid-week "Billy" showed his quality before going off with a minor groin strain with three assists and showing he's got it. Positioning spot on. More to come there.

Throughout, one of the foundations of the club - Jack Rodwell, Moyes' own prodigy has started to show glimpses of his ability in midfield when called upon by Everton Football Club. Everton started using width - the entirety of the pitch in their attacks thanks to Rodwell spreading it around. Fabregas eat your heart out. Rodwell is one of Moyes' boys. Brought up in the club throughout Moyes tenure.

You have to wonder if the classless and fickle supporters remember these things when the knives are out, and Moyes makes a perfectly reasonable substitution when Everton are cruising? There are too many around who seem to think they have a better judge of football than Moyes. Results and track record speak differently. Unlike some I remember the pre-Moyes era and previous managers at Everton. Moyes is not like any recent ones as one cluess idiot claimed on Sunday when we were winning three nil, likening Moyes to Walter Smith? Heard some statements in my time. But that says it all.

Bringing Hibbert, Jo and Gosling on when you've destroyed the opposition and criticising Moyes for it is a complete joke. Formula one drivers get occasional testing time on the track, and Moyes needs to test other systems and on occasion rest players. Deal with it. Its about developing resilience through playing multiple systems. Of course the odd know it all "fan" at Goodison think they know better, even if they themselves are clueless yet accuse Moyes of being so. Ridiculous. Have some patience.

Rodwell's come up through the ranks purely thanks to David Moyes' changing Everton's fortunes. Only a manager of his ability will keep him at Everton. Evertonians have no idea how lucky we are. Rodwell is a player, alongside Arteta you can build a team around, and Moyes has done it, bringing in additional capability - in true Moyes fashion/ability - on a shoe string. Pienaar and Billy - combined fee £12 million. Or half the Kopites latest signing who's yet to find his boots over the park and get on the field.

So where are the criticisms and clueless now? The usual charge at Moyes is Everton play "hoof ball". I don't know what planet some of these are on. Allardyce plays "hoof ball" and did so throughout the first half.

Moyes only plays with what he has available - now Everton use the whole pitch - stretch the opposition passing wing to wing, with the odd ball over the top if a forwards got a run on. That is how Moyes wants to play, and is getting the players bit by bit to do it.
At Blackburn and Bolton - Allardyce teams play horrible clueless football and Sunday showed it - and to think some of the very same clueless attendees at Goodison criticising Moyes were advocating Allardyce not so long ago. An abomination. Everton don't just rely on set pieces although we try to make the most of them. Pienaar, Rodwell and Saha are just numerous examples of shooters outside the box. So that's another myth blown away about Moyes' teams.

Rodwell's quality allowed Everton to play football, with Pienaar destroying the Blackburn left back. Without Arteta - through Billy and Rodwell Moyes has addressed the weakness of only relying on little Pienaar for everything. Pienaar will thrive with the pressure off.

So what's the score?
Moyes has rebuilt Everton, despite the odd setback it's Moyes' youth policies that will dictate future Everton success, and his purchases will only be a bit part to this.

Jack Rodwell is a cornerstone to Everton's future.

Everton play good football and strive to, but won't play to another team's strengths purely because an opposition manager wishes we did (Team bus parked on the pitch).

The myth about David Moyes substitutions is perpetuated by the clueless who don't see players all week in training and don't know what's going on with fitness levels, form and confidence. Moyes does. Equally, Moyes goes on the advice of his assistants who know much of what is going on with players as well. Jo isn't viewed as a lone striker. Saha's inclusion Sunday proved this. But until he tries things - Moyes can't judge something for sure. Jo will play alongside the Yak, just like he did alongside Vagner Love at CSKA. Or alongside Saha. But it all depends on the opposition.

Its easy to sit and be a know it all in the stands. But most doing the criticising haven't rebuilt a Premier League football club from the bottom up over 7 years on a shoe string, and many haven't developed players of the potential of Jack Rodwell or brought in players like Arteta or Pienaar.

Wednesday night in Hull should provide more time to settle for the team. Whilst Portsmouth and another show of Everton quality are a must. But you can only beat what's in front of you.

Moyes will show what's what yet again this season. One loss on the first day does not make a season.

Moyes knows how to build a team in ways people in the stands can't even dream of - and Moyes can only make substitutions with what he has available and depending on his players condition. It's the big picture that counts.

Great article. I was desperate to see the new signings straight away, but you have to give them time to learn about Evertons ways before dropping them in. This gives them a chance to be the best they can be once they are eased in. It typifies the whole Moyes approach. Steady, detailed, planned progress. Moyes is a genius.

Always banging on about other supporter this one. Get over yourself!
It is the supporter’s job to moan when things aren’t going so well. They can because they pay for that privilege.
Long after contracts have expired and deeds sold to some zillionaire The Supporter will still be there for Everton. And God willing still moaning!
But Moaning for Everton not at Everton.
And we didn’t exactly push the boat out at the transfer window either.
Moyes himself admitted that the players weren’t playing well and that they needed more completion.
It’s 2 wins out of five now, but it was only 1 win out of 4 when the moaning kicked in.
When the media moan about Hibbo, Yobo, Felaini or even Everton as a team and we see a positive difference every time.
Behold.. Everton move up 10 places
God bless you moaners!

Having been sat listening to the tripe coming out of moaners mouths in the stands and on web boards these past few weeks - it makes me question why some of these even bother coming to the game. The very same leave early! Missing the winner against Wigan. Not for the first time.

Even when we're winning 3-0 the very same are whinging.

I like many others pay the privilege to watch Everton too. Not listen to other people moan - ridiculous untrue things - in the stands.

Thats me - getting over myself, and will be me getting over myself at Hull on Wednesday and Portsmouth at the weekend.
