Increased options allow Everton FC to improve

TWO big wins in the space of four days and things are looking much rosier for Everton.

It had been a tough first month of the season for David Moyes's side but one trait they've shown for a while now is that they don't play badly for long.

A morale-boosting thrashing of AEK Athens in their Europa League opener was followed up by a surprisingly easy disposal of Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Blackburn have been something of a bogey side for Everton over the past few seasons but they were very much second best on this occasion.

At long last Moyes is also able to shuffle his pack from game to game with some genuine options emerging.

He started with Jo on Thursday and Louis Saha on Sunday and between them they rewarded him with three goals.

Throw long-term casualty Yakubu into the mix with the Nigerian returning to match fitness and all of a sudden there's an embarrassment of riches up front which has allowed Moyes to send James Vaughan out on loan.

Moyes will also be encouraged by Diniyar Bilyaletdinov's display on his first start.

A whole stack of players from the former Soviet Union haven't always done the business here - look at Andriy Shevchenko, Sergei Rebrov and even Roman Pavlyuchenko - so you have to give the lad time to settle but the early signs are promising.
