Eurotonic possibilities
There's always something special about a night game. Sounds reverberate more, smells are more pungent, and colours are more vivid. So maybe memories of Euro games - always played on weeknights - stand out that bit more.
Two years ago our season was saved by an away win in the Ukraine. That started a ball rolling that still hasn't stopped. But what I think I remember most from that Euro run was the defeat of Larissa, and Leon Osman's unbelievable goal.
A few weeks later we disposed of Zenith St Petersburg - eventual winners and now Russian Champions. All these were great Goodison nights.
Which brings us to AEK Athens. They are a good team, and were a super force not many years ago. But we need to use this game, this contest, to boost our own season.
Don't worry that some people have laughed off this competition. A competition that has Celtic, Ajax, Roma, Lazio and Hamburg in it is not a competition to mock. We can win this one. We should have won it two years ago.
Everton, raise your game, raise our voices and elevate our season.
