Time To Bite Back

The Lescott deal is finally done and dusted but, despite our speed in the transfer market, I still can't help feeling utterly betrayed. I've certainly not felt this way since we lost the last 'will he, won't he' transfer struggle, then I think back to that year; how the struggle led to anger and stubbornness - two things that re-invigorated our football club.

Remember that year? That was when Moyes did what he does best: turning adversity into triumph. The season started miserably with that transfer (I still refuse to name that player) and a heavy defeat at home to Arsenal, before we got it together to go on an amazing run, eventually finishing fourth.

Do the circumstances of that season remind you of anything? Ok, so after that Arsenal defeat we went on to beat the promoted side, unlike our defeat at Burnley this season. Even if we fail to get a result against Wigan tomorrow, I won't be pushing the panic button as we are more than capable of going on an unbeaten run that will push us up the table.

We are best when written off, when trodden on and dismissed. It has taken injustices in the last two seasons to knock us back on our feet. Two years ago it was Clattenberg and the derby defeat, last year it was Neville's booking for an excellent tackle on Ronaldo. This year we have Lescott to kick back against.

Some of you might argue that the clubs fighting for European places are better than ever, but with the latest additions to our squad so are we. The trick is now to blend the team and Moyes can use the aggrievement left over from Lescott to drag this bunch of players together. There really is no reason why we can't come out of this fighting; a stronger, more determined and better Everton FC - one that can finish above Manchester City.
