Moyes-Doctrine: School of Science and Moyes are the attraction to young talents
Everton have succeeded this month in attracting two teenage major talents to our ranks in the form of Shkodran Mustafi and Luke Garbutt, but doing so at best cost to Everton FC. The club and Moyes should be saluted for being "on the ball" in bringing such talent into the Everton fold, with Ken Bates (Leeds United chairman) spitting feathers on BBC radio, the regulations are quite clear, and despite Mr Bates rhetoric - FIFA's training fee compensation, from Everton to Leeds is straightforward and clear, and Mr Bates will not be receiving the millions he's implied in the media.
With us also being in for Kyle Naughton and Fabian Delph, as well as continental talents Stephen Defour and Joao Moutinho, the question has to be asked - why are Everton FC now able to flex their muscle in bringing top talent to Liverpool?
The answer is simple. David Moyes - heading The School of Science.
Players who come to Everton go up a level with the Toffees. Training under the top "player development manager" in Moyes, supported by his staff, the players are learning their trade at Finch Farm training facility - The (new) School of Science. Moyes can spot the talent early and more often than not bring them along.
The obvious impacts of young Jack Rodwell, Dan Gosling, Baines, Jo - a player with development to come - plus former championship players like Lescott, Cahill, Jagielka becoming international players with Everton, we give players the chance to impress and express that nothing but the best is good enough. If they show it and the desire to play for Evertonians and not just money - to compete - then a blue will always get lifted to hero status at Everton, where the fans are a breed apart.
Moyes and the School of Science have shown just what Everton is all about. We have a track record for making players take the next step - to step upwards at Everton, itself a necessary waypoint in bringing trophies to Goodison Park - Liverpool.
The media now know this is the major attraction for players to come to Everton. Its not all about money, its about the football, about the club culture, about Everton's supporters and about the stability Everton can give a player to thrive. David Moyes has taken Everton's player development back to the days of our own Harry Catterick - Manchester United may play at the Theatre of Dreams, but our place isn't a marketing ploy. Our place is about getting the best out of players - The School of Science. It's something Everton have always strived for - and like Catterick, its something Moyes has the ability to do. Any Evertonian only has to look at how our playing style has changed as Moyes has brought in his signings, last season utilising wing-backs and playing a mixed passing style. This season Moyes wants balance and to have orthodox wingers available for the campaign.
With other clubs like Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur trying to hijack our potential signings, with circus-City (Manchester City) and their oil-barons casting envious eyes at our players, with the Kopites in financial turmoil thanks to the Yanks and the banks, Everton are able to remind them that amongst it all - we are an island of stability.
When Moyes meets Kyle Naughton on Monday 13th July, and Fabian Delph in due course he only needs to refer to his School of Science. Look at the track record of Tim Cahill, Joleon Lescott, Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and others to make the next step at Everton from the Championship or lower leagues. To point to Mikel Arteta or Steven Pienaar for the likes of Stephen Defour and Moutinho - as a case in point those continental players can also thrive in Moyes' playing culture and that they can help Everton smash the Sky4.
When Moyes meets Kyle Naughton and takes him round Finch Farm, gets him to meet Phil Neville, let Naughton and any other player see that Everton are a team in progress and that we never give up fighting and that is the key characteristic of Everton, just like they can be key players for us and future internationals.
Everton attracting stars is not because we pay the highest wages, although we pay amongst the best - it's our ability to make good players - even better. To make them compete at the highest level and for trophies without the circuses of boardroom interference or managerial despots "going off on one" in the press room.
Come to Everton if you want to be the best. Because under David Moyes at the School of Science - nothing but the best is good enough.

Decent article, well said! Just disappointed Fellaini didn't get mention ?
Finch Farm is a real player puller. Building that place has been one of the best things we have done. That and The school of science, decent wages & a manger who will give them an opportunity in the premier league; no wonder they are attracted.
You're right, finch farm is a major factor now. It us an impressive sight and by all accounts one of the finest around. It's also no coincidence that the whole development of the site was planned and overseen by moyes himself so that he, round, woods and the rest of the coaching staff can oversee the development of everybody from junior to first team. Not many teams have the luxury of youth and senior squads sharing the same training pitch and it really is a master stroke by moyes!
A very nice article, pity it's a load of rubbish considering Naughton went to Spurs and Delph to Villa. Yeah a real player puller that finch farm. Or would it be the poxy money as usual?? NO heart these days, pack of bleedin mercenaries. Cahill excluded.
Naughton went to Spurs due to shady dealings - despite it being known he wanted to come here. (Why would Sheff Utd suddenly exclude us from negotiations so suddenly?).
Delph went to Villa because Leeds (Ken Bates refused to do business with us after Garbutt an U17 England youth player joined us).
Not rubbish, there is lots going on.
Senderos has already agreed terms, just fee remaining.
Rasmus Elm is known to favour us because of how impressive David Moyes was.
With a rabbit out of the hat to be attracted too, for the reasons mentioned in the article.
Don't allow a pesimistic atmosphere cloud your judgement.
We are the school of science. And we have David Moyes.
