Everton FC rumour mill: Blues & Villa in Owen chase ; Swedish U21 ace eyed ; £4m ex-Arsenal ace tracked?
Former Newcastle striker Micheal Owen is expecting to join either Everton or Aston Villa according to the latest reports.
Owen is now out of contract at St James' Park and a free agent who can move on to anyone who takes his fancy. Hull and Stoke have both been linked but apprently neither are likely to land his signature as he does not fancy another season of relegation struggle.
According to the Independent the Owen camp are confident that the two clubs that finished directly behind the big four last season will make an offer.
Without a transfer fee both Everton and Villa could offer a hefty signing on deal but it remains to be seen who, if either, will be ready to offer the sort of wages he maybe after.
Owen will apparently also receive almost another half-a-million in wages from Newcastle over the coming 31 days because under the terms of his agreement he is entitled to another four weeks of his wages, thought to be £108,000 a week, unless he signs for another club on the same terms.
Blues eye Swedish ace
Daily Mirror reports that Tottenham have joined the chase for Groningen forward Marcus Berg. Berg (22) has impressed heavilly in the European U.21 Championships and this has allerted Redknapp.
Everton, Liverpool and Fulham are other Premier League clubs believed to be in the chase. Groningen could be willing to sell for £5 million.
Everton eye £4million former Arsenal striker
Everton Football Club are plotting a move for Jose Antonio Reyes.
When the Spanish forward moved to Arsenal from Sevilla in 2004 in a deal worth around £10million, he was rated as one of the hottest prospects in European football.
However, despite a bright start to life in England Reyes soon started to falter and after spending the 2006/07 season at Real Madrid, he moved to Atletico the following summer.
The 25-year-old struggled at the Vicente Calderon and he spent last season on loan in Portugal with Benfica, but he is expected to move on again ahead of the new season.
Reports suggest David Moyes is willing to take a chance on Reyes if he can persuade the La Liga side to sell for £4million, which is roughly half of what they paid the Gunners.
