Speaking with the Enemy: Newcastle v Everton
Lee Ryder is a Newcastle supporter
1. How would you assess Newcastle's season so far?
The hope was top six under Kevin Keegan. But hopes quickly changed to staying up after he went.
If Newcastle survive, it will be deemed as a salvage job.
2. Can the team cope without Joe Kinnear and what's your verdict on his reign to date?
Joe Kinnear he steadied the ship in difficult circumstances but he probably isn't the long-term answer. The fans don't blame Kinnear.
3. Was Keegan's return bound to end in tears?
Newcastle is Keegan's club and in the eyes of the people and if they weren't going to give him his own way, he was going to walk.
Had they let him get on with it then it wouldn't have ended in tears and we would be higher than 13th.
4. Do you think Newcastle fans are envious at what has been achieved at Everton?
Of course they are. More frustrated in that Everton have done the common sense thing and stuck with the same gaffer.
5. Who has been your best player this season?
When Michael Owen has been fit - he's scored goals.
But Sebastien Bassong has been the highlight with some rock-steady performances at the back, but had Jonas stayed fit, it would be a closer ran thing.
6. How big a miss is Shay Given going to be?
For all Given's world class capabilities, he won't be a big a miss. Steve Harper would be in the England squad if he'd left Newcastle for another Premier League club.
7. Just how worried are the Geordies about the prospect of relegation?
Quite worried, but we're getting there slowly and I think we will crawl over the finish line by the end.
8. Are there any Everton players you'd like to see in the Newcastle side?
I think you could make a case for six or seven.
Tim Cahill would be one but then consistent guys like Tony Hibbert and Phil Neville all do a job.
9. Finally, what's the score going to be on Sunday?
I'll stick my neck out and predict a narrow win for the Geordies.
