DAVID MOYES faces a selection poser over Marouane Fellaini this weekend with the midfielder walking a disciplinary tightrope ahead of the Merseyside derby.

Fellaini picked up his ninth booking of the season when he was carded by referee Mike Riley in the first half of the Boxing Day victory at Middlesbrough.

The Belgian has already served a one-game suspension after accruing five cautions in his first eight games in English football.

Another yellow card would mean a two-game ban for Fellaini. And the 20-year-old must avoid a booking in the next two games to be available for the trip to Liverpool on January 19.

With Everton pressing for Champions League qualification, Moyes is unlikely to rest Fellaini for the Premier League visit of Hull City on Saturday week.

However, the Goodison manager could choose to take the Belgian out of the firing line for Saturday's FA Cup third round journey to Coca-Cola League Two strugglers Macclesfield Town.

Fellaini has been operating as a makeshift striker alongside Tim Cahill, but Moyes now has the fit-again Victor Anichebe available for the Moss Rose tie.

Assistant manager Steve Round revealed at the weekend that Louis Saha is now "nearly fit" as he recovers from a hamstring problem.

But the cold snap is threatening Saturday's cup tie at Macclesfield, with temperatures unlikely to move above freezing before the game.

The club requested help from volunteers yesterday to place extra covers and heating equipment on the pitch to supplement the existing covers that have been in place since the game on Sunday.

"We're doing everything possible to ensure the game goes ahead," said chairman Mike Rance. "The forecasters reckon this cold spell will remain with us beyond the weekend, so we've decided to give the pitch some extra protection."

With the transfer window opening today, Everton are bracing themselves for an expected bid from Arsenal for Mikel Arteta as manager Arsene Wenger seeks to replace the injured Cesc Fabregas.

However, the Londoners will be given no encouragement with the Goodison outfit having already stated they have no intention of selling any star players in January.

Meanwhile, Everton's plans to beam back the Macclesfield game on Saturday afternoon have already proved extremely popular.

Exclusively for season ticket holders, a large quantity of tickets have already been issued.

"We are delighted with the uptake so far," said acting chief executive Robert Elstone.

Season ticket holders wanting to attend the free screening are reminded no tickets issued on the day of the game and admission is by ticket only.

To book, supporters should call 0871 663 1878 or visit the Park End box office quoting their customer number.

EVERTON'S FA Youth Cup fourth round tie at Burnley will take place on Wednesday, January 14 (7pm).
