Victor Anichebe must take his big chance up front for Everton

A WEEK ago I said that Everton should revert to a 4-5-1 formation but now they haven't got any choice.

David Moyes duly started with Ayegbeni Yakubu on his own up front at White Hart Lane and despite losing the Nigerian with a season-ending ruptured Achilles and Louis Saha to a hamstring injury, the shape seemed to suit our side as we recorded an impressive away victory over Tottenham.

For the next few weeks at least, it looks like we'll have to soldier on with just one fit striker in the shape of Victor Anichebe.

This is a massive opportunity for the Nigerian Olympian.

He's proven to be a decent enough prospect and enjoyed success as an impact player in last season's UEFA Cup but this spell could go a long way to deciding whether he can cut the mustard on a regular basis at Goodison Park.

Perhaps Anichebe just needs a bit of luck which is something his friend and fellow frontman James Vaughan continues to lack.

Vaughan has suffered a catalogue of injuries since bursting onto the scene as the Premier League's youngest-ever goalscorer in 2005.

However, his latest setback takes the biscuit. Dr Richard Steadman was unable to operate on him in Colorado this week due to an injury of his own.

I certainly wouldn't ask Vaughany to pick my lottery numbers!
