Time for Everton to lift the air of despondency
WE'VE been through the trauma of staring relegation in the face with players considerably less talented than the current crop, yet the mood now is possibly the most despondent many Evertonians have ever been about the club.
Whether it's the board, lack of investment, ground fiasco, manager's contract or performances on the pitch, there really is very little if anything to be proud about at present.
Out of the two competitions that we had any chance of joy in and a dreadful league start which has made European qualification for next season highly unlikely, the consequences of our summer of discontent have now come to fruition.
So where do we go from here? Quite simply the sulking has to stop and a run of form in the league is essential. Evertonians are as loyal a bunch as there is, but it's getting to the stage where it feels like blind loyalty without any reward. Rather than getting angry, many are getting fed up with the club and football in general.
In the current predicament, the gods could not have given us a better opportunity to start putting things right than the Barcodes at home tomorrow. The only light relief this season has been a good chuckle at how the most deluded club and fans have made themselves a complete and utter laughing stock.
With a tough run of fixtures ahead, only a win will do. It's been somewhat a muted response following our three home defeats, but a revolt could ensue if we go four straight home league defeats.
It's now up to Moyes and the boys to try ignite some enthusiasm from the fans, maybe even a wee bit of excitement at a push. One of those things they call a 'clean sheet' wouldn't go amiss either!
