Everton fan: Confidence is what Everton need now

THIS appeared to be billed as the clash of the Premier League's crisis clubs, though I'm sure Tottenham would've been grossly offended at their exclusion from the league's crisis elite.

The one word which screamed out throughout this match was 'confidence'.

We started the game full of purpose and verve taking the game to the Barcodes who were drastically low on confidence and determined to ensure every pass found the stands rather than a team-mate.

After sailing into the lead and cruising, it crossed my mind at one point in the first half that this was like the Sunderland 7-1 game last year.

Oh when when will I learn my lesson?

Just when it seemed like we might actually have been able to enjoy a home game, the self-destruct button that has copyright by Everton Football Club was firmly jammed down and within a minute either side of half-time as fans' heads were back in hands with now the all-too-familiar cry of "what's gone wrong with our defence?".

The moment they got their first, you could literally see the confidence just evaporate from our players.

The crisp, neat interchanges in the first half were suddenly replaced by long balls hit in hope.

Both teams had chances in the second half, but we've just got to be thankful that Newcastle weren't too full on confidence themselves, as we were there for the taking if they'd have wanted to win the game.

There's plenty of talk about Moyes signing his contract and new owners possibly coming in by the New Year.

Without a real hope of winning anything this season and unlikely to qualify for Europe next season, if I were Moyes I'd get that contract signed for a bit of job security quickly before any potential new owners for him to report to come in who may not be as patient as Kenwright.

Am I confident for the rest of the season?

At the moment I'm as confident about being happy in May as I am about Andy van der Meyde being installed club captain.
