David Moyes signing could help find buyer

THE man charged with finding a buyer for Everton believes David Moyes's new contract will make the club a more attractive proposition.

Moyes ended months of speculation by putting pen-to-paper on a new deal in midweek that extends his commitment to the Goodison outfit until the end of the 2012-13 season.

And Keith Harris, chairman of investment bank Seymour Pierce who have been given the task of finding new owners for Everton, reckons the long-term stability will be a source of encouragement to any potential investor.

"I think Bill Kenwright has made it clear after years and years of successfully nurturing Everton, it requires a new investor with substantial money to invest," said Harris.

"The manager has just signed a new contract which gives them stability.

"Stability when you a have a manager who is regarded with such quality is healthy."

Harris also admitted that Everton's growth is being stilted by the lack of either a new ground or the redevelopment of Goodison Park to boost match-day attendances.

"Everton are clearly constrained by its capacity and we saw what happened when Arsenal moved stadium," he added.

"Their match-day attendance went from 36 or 37,000 to 60,000 and Everton require a new stadium or a development to achieve that."

Meanwhile, James Vaughan says Everton's players must now justify their manager's decision by arresting their poor start to the season and begin climbing up the Premier League table.

"It's massive news for the club," said the 20-year-old.

"He has brought us a long way in the space of time that he has been here and we hope that remains to be the case. The gaffer brought me through and gave me my chance.

"Now it's up to me and the rest of the boys to repay him with results. When we click together, I don't think there will be any stopping us.

"We have just got to get together and keep fighting.

"This is a new era for us and we have got to kick on from here."

Vaughan netted twice for the reserves on Tuesday night in the mini-derby as Everton came from 2-0 down to beat Liverpool's second string 3-2 at Warrington.

And the striker added: "It's always good to get a run-out and a mini-derby is a bigger game than most at this level and it was good to get the win.

"The two goals were brilliant but the biggest thing for me was the team performance, as the younger lads showed a lot of heart."

Tim Cahill marked his return to the Australia team by scoring a goal and winning a penalty in their 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over Qatar in Brisbane yesterday.

"It's great to win the game and I really enjoyed playing in front of this crowd," he said.

"The tempo was high and that was how we wanted the game to be."

Cahill is suspended for Everton's games against Arsenal on Saturday and Manchester United the following weekend as he serves the remainder of a three-match ban after his red card in the Goodison derby last month.
