Change In Fortunes Not Too Far Away For Everton?
OUT of Europe, OUT of the Carling Cup, David Moyes still not signed his contract.
These must have really been playing on the minds of every Everton fan not so long ago, myself included.
HOWEVER the gaffer has now signed his contract, so how has it seemingly affected everyone associated with the club?
The Newcastle game was a case of 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times'.
The first half couldn't have been more perfect, the players looking as though the corner had turned, and indeed, it still could turn.
It was also great to see Marouane Fellaini get his first goal.
He has been in for some criticism, which I feel has been a little harsh, as he is only 20 and does not speak English yet, so he needs at least a season or two before he can be judged.
At half time, many people were sensing that Everton could have gone on an onslaught, with the passing, good use of all areas of the pitch and the sharpness of the strikers.
Unfortunately though, Newcastle grabbed that important goal just before half time, and that seemed to pick them up, as it was only a couple of minutes in the second half when they equalised.
The second half was probably the worst I've seen Everton play in a long time, and that includes the games against Liege.
Roll on two weeks to the Arsenal game.
Again, the perfect start to the game, and again, it sounded like the perfect half for the Blues.
But in the second half, and I for one, don't think it was unexpected, Arsenal picked up and showed what a quality side they are.
But they had to bring on Theo Walcott for anything to happen.
Only 19, yet he does turn the game for them.
He had a couple of good games for England in midweek and then he comes on in the second half of this game for the Gunners, and gives the Everton defenders extra work to do.
But David Moyes did say that there were positives to be taken from the game.
His team are looking more settled, and with his contract now signed, everyone can now concentrate more on matters on the pitch.
Next up is Manchester United, which we all know is a tough game, but I don't think they are looking as convincing as they did last season, and with the game being at Goodison Park, the players must take their chances.
I would like us to go back to playing 4-4-2, as I don't think the formation worked too well yesterday, and with Louis Saha and Yakubu up front, Everton are more than capable of getting at least a point if not more.
After that game, we've got some games where we should be in with an excellent chance of maximum points.
Bolton, Fulham, West Ham, Middlesbrough, Wigan and Tottenham are the Toffees' next six opponents, and with the exception of maybe Fulham, Tottenham and Middlesbrough, they should win at least three, and draw the other three.
That is, draw those games at least.
Everton now should be looking to win every game they go into, and not fear anybody, as I am sure the players will tell you that is exactly what they do.
A win will give the team a boost of confidence, and the fans a massive lift.
The performances are starting to improve, players are starting to settle, there are still players to come back from injuries and suspensions.
Let us all hope that there is a change in fortunes on the horizon for our beloved team.
