A Positive Outlook on Everton

By Andy Forsyth on Oct 1, 08 10:31 AM in Fans

AT THE moment, things don't look too good at Everton. Far from it.

Our home form is struggling, the defence is leaking goals left, right and centre, and there is still some uncertainty over David Moyes' contract, which, some believe is contributing to the form of the players.

HOWEVER, this is a team which has gone from consistent relegation candidates to consistently challenging for a European place.

This is down to something that is rare in football these days, and that is the Chairman's backing of the Manager.

Yes, we can say that Bill Kenwright hasn't given David enough in the way of funds, but, unlike teams such as Newcastle, or in the not-so-distant past, Chelsea and Manchester City, Kenwright has been supportive and patient, the board have given the funds to break Everton's transfer record four times in a row, and Moyes hasn't walked out at the first sign of danger.

Last season, Everton reached the semi finals of the League Cup, the last 16 of the UEFA Cup and finished 5th for the second season on the bounce. All teams go through a bad patch, and at the moment, Everton are going through theirs. The players are good enough to get them out of it, and the new players are showing signs of promise, but will need a little more time to gel.

The game against Liege will be tough, but Everton will want to hit back after the derby disappointment, and maybe, just maybe, we may see our season turned around against our Belgian opponents.

I remember Metalist away last year. We went into that in a similar situation. Here's hoping we can pull it off again!
