Show Moyes The Money
There have been many rumours going around this pre season that Moyes will never sign his new contract. I predict Moyes will wait till he's seen the money for players before he signs. He knows he has turned the club around and to continue taking the club forward he needs fresh faces in. I think after a couple of signings, it'd seem Smith most likely being his first, he'll relax and put pen to paper. He simply hasn't had time to be discussing his own deal with the new season looming and players being watched.
Now Alan Smith may not be to everyone's taste, mine included, but for £2million I can't see a better option. He never got going at Newcastle so a fresh start is just what he needs. He'll be eager to prove his worth from the off, lets just hope he watches that fiery temper of his.
Things won't be all doom and gloom if we get just a couple of new faces in. Surely with the money from selling Johnson we should be able to afford Joao Moutinho and maybe a last minute loan deal. I'd like to see Manuel Fernandes here again. We all know Fernandes didn't reach the sparkling form he showed on his first loan spell, but as he got more games under his belt he showed a few flashes of good form. With full fitness we could see the best of him - if I was Moyes I'd be trying to get this loan sorted ASAP before someone else snaps him up. (Don't Valencia play Newcastle soon?)
The good news should be Cahill, Arteta and Vaughan returning to fitness. Last season Everton picked up 40 points in the 18 games Cahill played and only 25 points in the 20 games he didn't play. With Arteta's injury and subsequent poor form last season seeing him back at his best would be enough to put a smile on any Evertonians face.

Hopefully he does have sufficient cash for Moutinho regardless of the Johnson cash. Ideal scenario Moyes would buy Bullard, Bent, Moutinho and MBia. Smith at 2 million would be acceptable but only if it is not preventing him from buying plahyers that he really needs like 2 central midfielders, a new striker and preferably a winger.
This is all wishful thinking of course, sadly Everton being Everton we will sign Fletcher and Smith and that will be that!
I do agree with most of that statement. However, as much as i think Arteta is a good player, he is one of those light weights that teams count on for going down cheap and getting more than his fair share of free kicks. Unfortunately thats a trait of Spanish and Portuguese players. I dont think he will ever go a full season uninjured.
Dont believe all the negative press stories of Everton having little money, or that transfers depends on the new stadium scenario. Those lads at Everton are far too shrewd to let everybody know they have more money to spend than what we all thought. As soon as teams catch wind of money bags, every player's price climbs 2-5m.
