Kenwright prepared to sell, Evertonians prepared to have a whip-round
Ambitious, grand old lady seeks partner to help rekindle glory days. WLTM fun-loving billionaire able to provide frequent European trips and jewellery to make the neighbours jealous. GSOH, non smoker a must.
Evertonians always knew that in a world where football is controlled by super-rich international organisations, a local boy made good through theatre would only allow the club to compete so far.
The obvious lack of funds at David Moyes' disposal this summer has showed Everton at their most cash-strapped in recent memory, struggling and sluggish in friendlies and leaving fans wondering whether the Blues will even be able to field a full compliment of players once the Premier League begins.
Kenwright now believes he must sell for the club to be able to break the top-four cartel responsible for the increasingly monotonous top-flight contest.
In all his good nature and unwillingness to sell up to anything less than a solid-gold successor, could Kenwright possibly have chosen a worse time to attract potential buyers?
Although Kenwright claims to have held talks with parties worldwide, Everton's threadbare squad, boardroom troubles and uncertain stadium move must surely make it difficult to punt the club while insisting on financing which will not place Everton on the same precarious ground as Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea.
These clubs may be able to spend big at the moment, yet their finances are based on foreign ownership who may tire under the strain of yearly transfer fees sometimes running into the hundreds of millions. In these bleak financial times, finding backers who will not pull the rug from underneath Everton when times get tough is paramount, although how realistic this is is another matter.
The image of plucky Everton, holding their own at the top-end of the table with nothing more than sharp wits, a shrewd eye for transfers and excellent team spirit is an attractive one, but we can't sign players with a dream and a rousing speech.
Let's hope that Kenwright's genuine love for the club allows him to find that perfect combination of integrity and deep pockets that so far has not materialised in English football.

I am a billionaire and I will pay whatever price Mr. Kenwright and his Board are asking. The only condition is that all Evertonians must accept that unlimited funds to bring in the best players in the world, playing at the best stadium in Britain (the new Goodison Park - in the city of Liverpool ) does not guarantee success. It just guarantees that Everton will, once again, be playing the most attractive, beautiful, attacking football in the country, that Liverpool F.C. will recede into the obscurity of the Liverpool Old Boys League (Division 5) with Derby matches against the likes of Bootech Old Boys of Bootle and that Everton will at least be competing with the very best of the Premiership every season. With that one proviso, how much does the club want?
