The Inevitable

I have tried to avoid the subject.

I have racked my brain for something light hearted and uplifting to say but my mind keeps falling back into the unavoidable issue generations of blues are debating and arguing over.

My attempt to ride along with the process of building a new stadium and accepting whatever the journey brings has failed miserably. I was of the mind that what will be will be and despite my reservations about the move I was willing to put my trust (although some will say I was hugely naive) in the Everton hierachy to deliver a stadium we could not afford to not move to.

As the weeks and forum postings have passed us by, the mediocrity of the planned stadium has become an increasingly worrying fact of life for blues to comprehend. Oh for the day when a measly £30 million would buy us an iconic waterfront stadium for all Evertonians to throw their weight behind, you couldn't even buy the right foot of a certain Portugese winger for that.

I have tried to remain positive about Kirkby but the time has come for this Evertonian to follow his heart and not his head.

The custodians of our club need to take a serious look at the alternatives. I can not comprehend that a large business would undertake such a big project without first investigating other options and having these as fall back plans should their preferred choice not come to fruition. An increasing chance of a government call in has now necessitated a more thorough investigation of all potential sites.

Of course, more than a little help from our 'friends' on the council is needed here and I don't mean by using us as a political pawn, I mean real help in the shape of land and money. Put your cards on the table Mr Bradley, once and for all.

Everton playing in Kirkby would not mean the end of us, despite the prophets of gloom telling us otherwise. However, as a 'Yes' voter I have eventualy come around to the fact we have not been given the opportunity to ensure we pass the blues onto the next generation with a clear conscience - all avenues must be fully investigated in an open and unambiguous consultation process. This will take time but Goodison is not going to give us up without a fight and I am sure she will he happy to have us for a good while yet.

Mr Kenwright, I still trust you to do the right thing but if you truly believe the best thing is Kirkby then I beg you to think again. Have a walk around Walton Hall Park and a new vision may just come into focus.

Apologies must be said at this point as I have pretty much covered the same ground as countless before me. The time had come for me to finally get things off my chest and into the Kirkby melting pot.
